Chasing Coral
DocumentaryChasing Coral is an award-winning documentary directed by American director Jeff Orlowski. The documentary was released in the United States on July 14, 2017. IMDb gives it an 8.5 out of 10 rating. The film follows a group of drivers, scientists, and photographers from all over the world as they go on a global quest to document the destruction of coral reefs. This film explores the phenomena known as "coral bleaching." Coral bleaching occurs when corals turn white as a result of climate change. Corals that go through this process are more likely to have stunted growth, lower reproductive potential, and be more susceptible to illness. The documentary begins with the story of Richard Vevers, an advertising expert who resolves to utilize his knowledge and skills to aid with climate change action. Somehow, Vevers succeeds bring in Pawel Orlowski, the project's director, after being impressed by his previous documentary, 'Chasing Ice.' In this documentary, Vever, the project's spokesman, is enthralled with ocean ecology, believing it to be as mysterious and magnificent as outer space. During his initial mission, the 'XL Catlin Seaview Survey,' he used still cameras to photograph the ocean floor. He starts by talking about his favourite sea creature, the Sea dragon, and how it became extinct. Then he begins to notice coral bleaching in a wide range of locations. Underwater, the vibrant corals faded to white and were eventually annihilated. He gets in touch with coral experts at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology and discovers that global warming is to blame for this horrible occurrence. And then, he decides to photograph the bleaching and reveal it to the world to bring this problem to the attention of the general public. Vevers, Orlowski, and the team find photographing the bleaching process to be a challenging endeavour. The majority of the film revolves around this daring undersea adventure. For them, as well as the scientists who eventually saw the tape, seeing corals die in front of their eyes was painful. The entire film is eye-opening and encourages us to reconsider every time we do something that harms the environment. Critics say that "It is a rare movie that dares to explore the issue of how best to represent an idea".
